I have been an Accounting Assistant for almost five years with NYK-FIL SHIP MANAGEMENT, a manning agency for seafarers. My responsibilities include preparing and verifying bank checks/vouchers, checking contracts of seafarers (including their salary information), preparing and encoding monthly allotment/payroll in Excel and in our software, we call it MPIP and doing vessel analysis to balance our records. I am also responsible for answering concerns about salary computations and providing specific information on salary deposit dates when the seafarer or their allottee asks. Additionally, I have tried using Quickbooks Online as our practical exam when I enrolled online, which helped me earn certification in both software applications (Quickbooks and Xero). This has given me a solid understanding of the bookkeeper's role, including recording day-to-day transactions, preparing financial statements, and reconciling business accounts.
